1st edition in 3 volumes. Crown 8vo, c. 7.5 x 4.75 inches,pp viii + 328, 336 and 312, all edges cut, hardbacks with leather spines. Books condition - Good ; the contents of all three volumes are much the same with some light foxing scattered throughout the text blocks, more so towards the front edges, previous owner's inscription on inner front boards "Edward L. L. Webb [or Nebb or Hebb -difficult to discern ]. Capt.", in volume 1 beneath the owner's inscription is a handwritten list of jobs and duties done by Capt Webb/Hebb/Nebb inner hinges show splitting but boards secure in all three volumes, binding firm . The three volumes uniformly bound with black, leather (possibly roan) spines with gilt titles and volume numbers, marbled paper on boards and vellum reinforced corners ; corners bent and rubbed but all intact, board papers show surface rubbing both fronts and backs but no real marks to speak of, board edgesrubbed and with some loss paper, spine leather in good condition with good sheen and gilt is complete and bright, volume 1 has had paper repair pieces applied to top and bottom of spine and a paper reinforcement piece down the front hinge, volume 2 spine is complete, volume 3 has had a paper repair done to the top of the spine - replacements/reinforcements are very well done to blend in (thought not invisibly) with the leather (please see photos). The handwritten notes inside the front board of volume 1 provide tantalising hints of some of the roles done by Edward Webb/Hebb/Nebb but the handwriting is difficult to decipher in places (indicated by question marks in the following) : items include "Sometime H. M. ? hcl ? Consul Saffi Morocco & ? ioge ? in Consular Court ; also later ? hci ? consul for dept. of Oran & ? frir ? . ? towns. Liason Officer between Admiral Commanding Gibraltar and French ? .? ( ? .? Sud) 1940. Also Registrar for Minister of Economic ? .? for dept of Oran ? ? Welfare Officer attached 8th Army M. E. 1945 - 6 " A sound copy of the first edtion with an interesting association.
