Thirty-one page pamphlet from the New York Tribune. An announcement of the creation of the Internal Revenue department, responsible for collection of the first ever national income tax in the U.S., primarily instituted to pay for the Civil War. This booklet also spells out tax requirements for various businesses and individuals, as well as the rates that apply to each. Good condition. First page has a dmapstain at top edge, which gradually fades away within the following pages. Larger, but fainter dampstain at bottom of last page, fading out more quickly. Old bookseller's blindstamp near upper corner of first page. Text of document has about ten instances of brief marginalia, in the form of an "x" or a paragraph bracket.
