En este libro, (a pesar del t�tulo, que da la falsa impresi�n de que trate de un cr�nica de las luchas pol�ticas francesas durante la II Guerra Mundial), describe su complicado y tortuoso viaje desde su destino diplom�tico en T�nger, cruzando el S�hara argelino y toda la Africa occidental para salir desde Freetown en Sierra Leone hacia Estados Unidos, antes de llegar a su definitivo exilio mexicano. En el ambiente que describe Vidarte del mundo de la Africa francesa durante los primeros meses de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, hay considerables paralelos con el escenario de la pel�cula 'Casablanca', y Vidarte intent� infructuosamente reclamar judicialmente alg�n beneficio por lo que consider� un claro plagio.
