About this Item

Description:

First edition, first state, omitting the street number on Quay Street on the titlepage, with first state ads. Illustrated pale blue-green cloth stamped in black and gilt. Small leather bookplate ("Blairhame") on front pastedown, light wrinkling or puckering of the cloth, still a nice, very good or better copy, housed in a custom cloth chemise and slipcase with morocco spine label gilt. An enormously popular humorous novel, about three invalid gentlemen out for a boat ride on the Thames. Jerome was heavily influenced by both Dickens and Twain and this, his most famous tale, epitomizes his warm, even unintellectual humor. This title was filmed at least five times in English, the last time in 1975 for British television by Stephen Frears with a script by Tom Stoppard and featuring Tim Curry and Michael Palin. A very nice copy. Seller Inventory # 539254
