A first edition of this attractive guide to painting flowers in water colour. A first edition of Vere Foster's guide to painting flowers using water colours. With eight facsimiles of original water colour paintings tipped in, collated and complete. In this helpful guide to water colour painting, Foster offers advice on how to paint Daffodils, Wild Roses, the Pyrethrum, The Columbine, the Azalea, the Campanula, the Yellow Rose, and the Primula. Alongside the facsimile plates, there are numerous outline drawings of flowers for the reader to try, some of which have already been carefully coloured in by a previous owner. Vere Foster was an Irish philanthropist and educationalist, who helped organise relief efforts during the Great Famine, and later supported national schools in Ireland, presiding over the largest teachers' union the Irish National Teachers' Organisation. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine, more so to the joints. A little bumped to the head and tail of the spine.
