Rilegato. Condition: buono. prima edizione. Text: Pham Van Son. Publisher: The General Political Warfare Departement of the Republic of Vietnam, Saigon, 1969, First Edition. Hardcover in photo illustrated dust jacket, 33x27 cm, 222 pages with numerous b/w photographs. Condition: General good condition, normal yellowing of pages, rare acetate cover, collectible copy. Signature and Ex-Libris stamp of previous owner. Language: English. Outstanding Vietnam war photobook that shows the perspective of the South Vietnamese troops. This rare book was produced by South Vietnamese photographers documenting the fight against the Viet Cong in the late 1960s. Assisted by the South Vietnamese military, the photographs show all aspects of the ARVN engaged in fighting against the North Vietnamese. As unrest grew in the US about the Vietnam war, this book was a propaganda piece designed to show that the South Vietnamese were playing their part in the struggle against Communism. Lots of dynamic combat photos in this book alongside very strong portraits of determined soldiers fighting the good fight. Mentioned in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook: A History, Volume III. Seller Inventory # ABE-1616570734867

1st edition dust jacket Nice Copy quarto 222pp., b/w plates, A lavish anti-Communist propaganda publication produced early in the death throes of the South Vietnamese puppet regime. Fine 'gritty' combat photography. 10 year-old Hanh was taken by French troops from a Catholic orphanage in Ha Dong, outside Hanoi, who a year later took him to France, where he was educated in Catholic schools. He returned to Viet Nam & joined a Communist Youth group before joining the South Vietnamese Army. He fled Viet Nam after undergoing re-education & sadly died in the US instead of joining in the cultural rebuilding of his native land. Nice copy in a very nice dust jacket. Scarce, especially in this condition. Seller Inventory # 72383
