Light wear to tops and tails of spines; edges, shoulders and corners rubbed, light foxing to endpapers and prelims, otherwise pages clean, text bright and bindings tight. First edition published anonymously. One of the Waverley novels, it deals with the escape of Charles II in1652, the Commonwealth and the legend of Woodstock Manor. Free postage. Three volumes; (size of bindings): 4 1/8" x 6 3/4"; xvi, 315 pp.; 332 pp.; 370 pp., lacking half-titles. Bound in full, straight grain dark purple morocco leather with four bands on spines and gilt titling on spines: Scott's Novels 1 Woodstock Edinb.h, & gilt tooled designs; gilt dentelle borders on outer covers with blindstamped saw-tooth pattern on covers, gilt borders on inner leather turn-ins, gray paper endpapers, sewn headbands; all edges gilt. Bindings are unsigned but of high-quality workmanship, mostly likely produced in the British Isles during the 1830-60's period, as part of a custom bound, larger matched set of Scott. Spines have faded to brown, top spine end of volume 3 shows some abrasion; light edge wear, rubbing to all cover edges, corners. Some scattered tan spotting to page margins, or tanning to some pages. Early printing of Scott's "Woodstock". Scan shows the spines and back cover of volume 3. Sold as a 19th century leather binding. Weight: 2 lbs. Seller Inventory # ABE-336389396
