Sm 8vo full leather, raised bands, respined [original spine reused], paper spine label, xxiv+417 pp., excellent internally with 4 plays: Ambitious step-mother [his first play, and set in Persepolis], Tamelane [alluding to Williams III and Louis XIV], Fair Penitent [praised by Samuel Johnson] and then Ulysses. Almost certainly first collected edition, and in original leather with raised bands & original gold tooling & modern paper label, for the collector much better than a modern reprint. Rowe came from a wealthy family, was a dramatist and Poet Laureate, and also undertook various jobs for the Crown. Book is ex-Middleton Park Size: Sm 8vo.
