Contemporary full calf, gilt spine with black label, the label somewhat rubbed. Owner?s signature of Carl Magnus Ehnemark, dated Philadelphia 1823. First American edition, complete with the extra appendix plates. Lever?s standard work was first published in London in 1808. The second was published the same year as this first American. It become during the 19th century published in several new editions, both in London and in America. Bra svensk proveniens. Carl Magnus Ehnemark (1803-74) var sj�officer och fr�n 1857 svensk sj�minister och konteramiral. F�r att f� erfarenhet tog Ehnemark efter kadettskolan 1821 v�rvning p� en amerikansk brigg och jobbade d�r upp sig till f�rste styrman. I samband med denna tj�nst befann han sig troligen i Phildadelphia 1823. Efter n�gra �r i Sverige tog han sedan v�rning i franska marinen och deltog 1830 i kriget mot Alger och i bel�gringen av Lissabon. �ter tillbaka i Sverige gjorde han en snabb karri�r, �nda till amiral och sj�minister. Som minister tillsatte hans flera utredningar f�r att h�ja standarden p� den svenska flottan och han initierade studieresor till v�stra Europa och Amerika f�r att �ka kunskapen om de nya marina tekniska f�r�ndringarna.
