Ownership signature of Cary W. Bok, Oxford, in each volume. Bok (1905-1970) was treasurer and senior vice president of the Curtis Publishing Company, and President of Curtis Institute of Music. Volume I covers from the apostleship of Saint Thomas until the discovery of the Cape of Good Hope; volume II: from the passage of the Cape of Good Hope to the establishment of the Tartar-Manchu dynasty in China; volume III: from the establishment of the Tartar-Manchu dynasty, until the death of Emperor Khang hi; and volume IV: from the death of Emperor Khang-hi until the Treaty of Tien-Tsing in 1858.
