On the verso of the front free endpaper in pencil: "Calcutta / 1912 / From the Author." A Calcutta University Registrar's Office rubberstamp on the title page (as always?). Herbert Bruce Hannah (1862-1930) was a British Lawyer in India. Many years before 1912 studied Tibetan in Darjeeling under Kazi Dawa Samdup. From 1910 to 1925 he was a High Court judge living in Calcutta. "Both literary and colloquial Tibetan have been dealt with, the particular dialect chosen for exposition being that standard one, known as the . ? kä, ? which is now spoken in and around . Lhasa" (p. vi).
