244pp [8]. Partially unopened in original publisher's brown wrappers, printed inn black with pink and burgundy detail. A little faded, with some creasing to the sunned spine. Toned evenly throughout. Inscribed to FFEP: '� Lawrence Olivier � " hommage d� admiration et de reconnaissance. Longworth Chambrun Paris Juillet 1945.' The first edition of a French language play based on the life of Shakespeare, written by a Canadian novelist, Constantin-Wever and American scholar Longworth Chambrun. In 1945 Olivier would have been in Paris with the Old Vic Company, performing three plays as part of their European tour for allied soldiers. From the library of Laurence Olivier, to whom many books were gifted over the length of his illustrious, industrious, and enduring career as one of the most important figures of stage and screen in the 20th century.
