First English edition, 2 volumes, 4to. Coloured frontispieces tipped in plus black and white illustrations in the text. Original blue cloth, gilt spine titles, upper covers with a gilt vignette and title and rules in black, damp stain to the edge of the spine of volume I, otherwise a very good set still with their d.w.'s, these showing some light marking and stains to the spines, otherwise sound. The larger version of the two binding variants with the title in black to the upper covers. The wrappers were seemingly produced for the smaller binding, hence looking slightly too small for this set. Nevertheless an unusual survival. Seller Inventory # 30407
