[North African History and Topography] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (25 x 18cm), pp.xii; 504. With 58 black and white plates, including a frontispiece, as well as a folding map. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper. Fore and lower edges untrimmed. Black ink ownership to front pastedown and title page. Occasional light spotting. Moderate wear and heavy toning to spine; titles heavily dulled. Very good. A dramatically broad-brush treatment of the history and topography of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, beginning with the legendary ninth-century B.C. emigration of Queen Elissar and the foundation of Carthage, and continuing through the Roman and Islamic periods, through to the days of the Corsairs.
