This classic treatise is a compendium of what was known in the authorís time - topics such as weathering and erosion, the classification of rocks, organic remains, physiography, coral reefs, volcanoes, earthquakes, geologic formations and their associated fossils, and much more. ***Condition: A VG+ copy in recent full brown cloth, with a gilt-lettered red leather spine label. The covers are pristine; backstrip lettering bold and bright. Joints and hinges solid, binding very firm. This includes works on regional geology, rocks, minerals, fossils, mining and related fields, with an emphasis on material written or published in the 19th century. I have a particular interest in the history of geology and also explorations in the American West.
