About this title

Synopsis:

From Back Cover: By 1892, the power of the cattle barons in Wyoming was rapidly declining. Homesteaders, encouraged by the promise of free land, were rapidly settling the West. The cattle barons were being replaced by these homesteaders, just as the big ranchers had replaced their predecessors the Indians. Homesteaders brought schools, law and order, churches, and roads. Mail service was greatly improved, towns grew, and roads were built to serve these new landowners. In fact the homesteaders really brought civilization and culture to the West. A husband and wife and their children were the most successful homesteaders. When the "man of the house" was gone for several days getting supplies from town or timber for wood, the wife and children carried on the work at home. Dr. A.G. Hoadley and his family played an important part in civilizing the West. He and his family "proved up" on their homestead. As a doctor, he also was a pioneer in providing medical service to his neighbors. This book tells his story.
