Interior pages are generally clean; some spots of marginal foxing are present on the plates. Bound in publisher’s green cloth with gilt design on front cover depicting the supposed three keys necessary for opening the great pyramid. Some rubbing is present to the extremities and to the spine. The head cap of the spine and a couple of small cloth tears are professionally restored / repaired; the outer corner tips of the boards are also neatly repaired. Charles Piazzi Smith (1819-1900) was Astronomer Royal for Scotland. He also studied and took extensive measurements of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Following the theories of John Taylor, Smyth believed that the builders of the pyramids were divinely inspired and that the Great Pyramid was a holding house of prophecies which were encoded in the details of its measurements.
