A new edition, considerably augmented from the original edition, Paris, 1782. Les jardins was an influential work calling for reform of the traditional style of gardening, with its straight lines and symmetry. Delille praises the virtue of the natural English garden, noting contemporary details of many of the famous gardens in England.Delille (1738-1813) was a poet and classicist who enjoyed an impressive reputation in his day as the "French Virgil."
