No history of British Columbia or the American Northwest would be complete without mention of Dr. William Fraser Tolmie who came to the Oregon Country in 1833 and lived in the city of Victori a from 1859 until his death in 1886. His early diaries of medical school and of the fur trade with the Hudson's Bay Company are in the Archives of the province of British Columbia.
