Ne comptant guère plus d’un millier de locuteurs, les Bagiro constituent une minorité linguistique remarquable de la République Centrafricaine dont la langue s’apparente étroitement à celles des populations «sara» du Tchad.
Le présent ouvrage propose une étude descriptive du bagiro qui s’inscrit dans la tradition structuraliste européenne. Il comporte quatre parties principales (phonologie, nom, verbe, énoncé), complétées par un choix de textes et un lexique. Une attention particulière est accordée aux phénomènes tonaux (diffusion dans l’énoncé, altérations des schèmes verbaux).
Traitant d’une langue peu connue et de surcroît menacée, cette description s’adresse en premier lieu aux linguistes et aux africanistes.

L’auteur: Directeur de recherche au Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, membre du laboratoire «Langage, Langues et Cultures d’Afrique Noire» (UMR 7594), Pascal Boyeldieu a travaillé en République Centrafricaine et au Tchad. Ses travaux portent sur la description, la comparaison et l’histoire de plusieurs langues d’Afrique centrale.
