4to. [255 x 200 x 10 mm]. [3]pp. Contemporary binding by J. Mackenzie (signed with an ink pallet at the head of the front pastedown) of blue goatskin, the cover with a gilt fillet border. Smooth spine tooled in gilt with four long compartments filled with darts and other small tools, lettered in manuscript on a thin paper label, the edges of the boards tooled with a gilt roll and the turn-ins with fillets, red endleaves, gilt edges. The binding has been bulked out with blanks. It is a neat piece of work by John Mackenzie who held the office of Bookbinder to George IV and William IV. A privately printed eulogy to Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), second son of George III and Queen Charlotte and Commander-in-Chief of the British army. Inscribed on the blank leaf preceeding the text: "For the Right Honble the Earl of Eldon with the most respectful compliments of the author. 26 Cadogan Place. 30 March 1829". John Scott, first Earl of Eldon (1751-1838), was Lord Chancellor between 1801 and 1827. With his circular bookplate. Seller Inventory # ebc3635
