About this Item

Charles Kinnaird (1780?1826), a Scots peer and a Bonapartist, was falsely implicated with a M. Marinet in an 1818 attempt to assassinate Wellington, and he here defends himself and protests against the violation of Marinet's safe-conduct. Marinet was a proteg? of Kinnaird's who claimed to be able to reveal details of an assassination plot against the Duke, it turning out that he himself was likely the would-be assassin.
