A fine miniature Catholic service book, supposedly for children but more likely designed for adult collectors of the minis. Produced by Didot in Paris for Spanish devotees, it is in any case a (tiny) treat. Binding: Publisher's salmon-colored textured cloth, front and rear covers stamped in gilt, front one with "Misa" in gilt in center. All edges gilt. Metal clasp on fore-edge of binding to keep volume closed ? intact! Provenance: Miniature bookplate of Grace Broecker, a major collector of miniature books; a portion of her collection is now at the Huntington Library. Date of publication: The Spanish National Library has a copy with 96 pages and 4 plates and gives the date of publication as between 1800 and 1836. Other libraries have copies with fewer pages and fewer illustrations and give dates as late as 1861 (e.g., Osborne Collection, a copy with 95 pages and 5 plates). In our opinion the binding has an 1850s or 1860s feel and look. Searches of NUC and World => fail to find another copy with this number of pages and plates. Miniature (3 cm; 1.25"). 96 pp., 10 leaves of plates. Binding as above, glue staining to gutter of front hinge (inside) and that hinge partially open. Else, very good. => Indeed, delightful.
