[Descripción en español a continuación] Uncommon antique map of the island of Saint Lucia in the Lesser Antilles. It is the French edition of the map by Thomas Jefferys of 1775, which was published in the Atlas Americain Septentrionale. The engraving of this original map is of high quality, for it provides an excellent perspective on the topography of the island. A key below indicates the location of the plantations, as well as the anchorages for large and small vessels. It includes an inset map of Carenage in the upper left corner that indicates depth soundings. Thomas Jefferys was one of the most important English cartographers of the 18th century. From around 1750, he began to publish maps of the Americas, which were among the most produced in the period. He was named cartographer to the Prince of Wales and later to the King. He engraved and printed for the government and other official bodies and produced a great variety of commercial maps and atlases, especially of North America. -------------------- Mapa antiguo poco común de la isla de Santa Lucía en las Antillas Menores.
