About this Item
Wiltshire county map. Divisions boroughs electoral. REFORM ACT. DAWSON 1832. Antique lithographic map with original outline hand colour; Cartography by Robert K. Dawson Lieut. R.E. Lithography by R. Martin. (1832). 27.0 x 24.0cm, 10.5 x 9.25 inches; this is a folding map. Condition: Good. Offsetting - text and/or images from the facing page have left an impression on the print. There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is plain. The map was published within the 1832 Reform Act for the purposes of showing the proposed electoral constituencies within the county. The most populous counties were split into divisions (shown by the red line) with each division to be represented by a Member of Parliament. The further split into electoral hundreds or wards is shown by the brown lines. The towns were to be represented by borough constituencies, shown in the map by red circles; the largest of these (for which the red dot is surrounded by an outer circle) elected two Members of Parliament, the smaller boroughs elected a single MP. The main polling stations are shown as light blue squares, with other polling stations being marked as crosses on some of the county maps. Seller Inventory # P-7-012178
