8vo (145 x 95 mm). 23 leaves (of 24, lacking terminal blank). Title within woodcut border. Tables with zodiacal symbols. Modern plain wrappers. E.P. Goldschmidt, 1968: "First edition of this collection of medical aphorisms by Jeronimo de Manfredi (died 1493), the author of the 'De Homine' which was first published in 1474. These aphorisms on medical practice, here edited for the first time by the great astronomer and cosmographer Johann Schöner, seem to have been chosen by him for their astrological interest, and Schöner has added a few pages of his own observations on the moon." The text by Schöner describes his own theories on the mansions of the moon. (Though untrained in medicine, Schöner had stressed in a 1528 work that one had to match a cure to the time of year and to the twelve signs of the zodiac and the twenty-eight mansions of the moon.) The present work, linked to the scholar-trained Manfredi, thus seems to be an act by Schöner to add legitimacy to his theories. VD 16, M 565; Zinner 4010; Durling 2924; Wellcome I, 4010; Hirsch-H.
