Un essai sur les vertus, dont on sait qu'il furent innombrables au XVIIIe, celui-ci renfermant des qualit�s particuli�res, se rangeant d'embl�e dans le mouvement des Lumi�res en rejetant le fait que les vertus soient l'apanage d'une seule religion, Fran�ois-Vincent Toussaint (1715-1772) s'adresse � tous les hommes, stigmatisant les nantis, la position sociale et le mod�le de l'honn�te homme du XVIIe, car l'ouvrage est une critique de la soci�t� contemporaine sur fond d'essai sur les vertus.
