[Prison Abolition] Lifetime in Prison: The Case of Eddie Sanchez. Committee to Free Eddie Sanchez, April 1975. Kansas City, Missouri. Pamphlet, 4 pages. 8.5" x 11." Lifetime prisoner Eddie Sanchez had been subjected to injections of Anectine in prison during aversion therapy, a practice used to modify behaviors by building chemically-induced associations with negative sensations. After Sanchez was recommended for a lobotomy, he decided to escape the state medical facility at Vacaville by getting transferred to federal prison. To do this, he wrote a letter threatening to kill the President and mailed it to the Secret Service. His plan worked, as he was then moved to Leavenworth in Kansas. Once there, he was attacked by another inmate, killing him in self-defense. He was so drugged during his trial that he did not remember it. Later, he attempted to take a guard hostage. This pamphlet uses Eddie's case to raise questions about psychiatric treatment in the prison system and includes a call-to-action in the exoneration of Sanchez. At the end, Sanchez is quoted: "They can kill me even and I'd die with pride. And then there is another reason. If no one spoke out and just let the system retain its corruption what will the world be like for future generations? .Somebody has to sacrifice and raise waves for a change to come." Receipt date of April 1975 penciled in corner of rear panel, very good condition.
