He wrote many comedies and took the leading roles. Karl Theodor was an Elector twice over and preferred Mannheim to Munich as his capital, having been brought up in the Rhine Palatinate. He was a great patron of architecture and music, his court orchestra being famous for the 'Mannheim Crescendo'. This letter was written during the French invasion.
