VELLUM DOCUMENT 1685 (In the 25th year of the Reign of Charles II) HAND WRITTEN WITH 2 hanging vellum supports but lacking the wax seals inside them. This vellum document measures 12 x 15 inches and consists of 1 page. Protected by a Mylar sleeve. Mailed folded as they were originally stored folded. Inventory #16-072. Price: $150 Vellum is cowhide scraped thin to create a durable writing surface. Vellum Documents were used for British land indentures (leases). Each document is hand written wax seals and original signatures. These were all handwritten. The wax seals and underlying ribbons acted to ensure the integrity of the pages so that pages could not be removed or added. These documents make wonderful items for framing or studying calligraphy. British VELLUM LAND INDENTURES OVERVIEW. Land and buildings were leased and these vellum documents served as the legal conveyances until typewriters made them obsolete. The pages of the document are generally very clean as they remained folded on the shelf in a law office. These documents were folded and the outside is usually dusty due to the exposure to the climate. The document will be folded when mailed and can be unfolded and framed. The vellum is very sturdy and does not tear. Language: eng Language: eng Language: eng. Seller Inventory # 16-072
