Half morocco, paste paper boards c. 1804, light wear at corners. Occasional foxing. Fine copy. Second edition, revised and enlarged. Daquin, medical director of Chambéry's Hôtel-Dieu, has been called a precursor of Pinel and Chiarugi for his advocacy of the moral treatment of insanity. His book is a treatise on mental illness and on the organization of the psychiatric ward of the Hôtel-Dieu; it contains his ideas about various forms of madness and the different therapeutic, moral, and physical treatments for them. He believed that insanity was influenced by the moon. The second edition of La philosophhie de la folie is dedicated to Pinel. Shorter, History of Psychiatry, pp. 23-24, 335.
