Limited Edition - Collectible. Near Fine condition; edges, corners, and covers of book show very minor wear. No underlining; no highlighting; no internal markings. No pricing stickers. No remainder mark. Very good, straight, clean and tight with wear to tips and edges. 4to., Dark red cloth binding, no dj as issued. One of 500 copies, this being #37 printed at the Riverside Press on Savoy antique paper. The second book published by Hawthornden Press, the original price was 25 shillings. The only known book of Gifford, a minor period poet who's writings brought forth at least one line plagerized by Shakespeare. First published in 1580. Only two known copies of the 1580 edition survive, both of which are owned by the Britisih Museum. Not published again until 'Posie' was included in the "Miscellanies of the Fuller Worthies" in 1870, which sparked enough interest to cause it to be fully published but even then in an edition for private circulation. This copy is VG, clean, straight and tight in binding. Printed on good paper, and entirely unread as the pages have never been cut. This copy was the possession of Sterlin Morton (Morton Salt), which was donated to the Morton Arboretum and thence to us. A rubber stamping tracing this provenance is found on the bottom of the copyright page. Tipped-in is a full-sized four page two color sales booklet introducing this book to potential buyers for 25 shillings 0 pence Net. A few copies of "A Cypress Grove" by William Drummond (the first book published by the Hawthornden Press) ." were then still available at 6s, 6d. Stored in sealed plastic protection.
