About the Author:

Joachim Splichal is the executive chef-owner of five restaurants in L.A.- the award-winning Patina, Pinot bistro, Patinette at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cafe Pinot and Pinot Hollywood- as well as one restaurant in the Napa Valley, Pinot Blanc. Splichal was raised in Spaichingen, Germany, and trained in Nice, France. He and his wife, Christine have lived in L.A. for 14 years. In 1991 he was voted Best Chef in California by the prestigious James Beard Foundation, and in 1994 the Zagat Restaurant Survey crowned Patina the number one restaurant in Southern California for the third year in a row.
