Grade 3-4-- Canine Sebastian is miffed when his owner, policeman John Quincy Jones, plans to attend a costume ball with his girlfriend Maude--and without Sebastian. Determined not to be left out, Sebastian dons a constable disguise and crashes the party. Once there, however, both Sebastian and his owner become involved in the investigation of a theft, with the prime suspects being members of the wealthy and spoiled VanderVanden clan. This latest entry in the popular and extensive "Sebastian (Super Sleuth)" series is as lighthearted as its predecessors. The old familiar characters are back, along with the eccentric VanderVandens. Needless to say, the story is wholly implausible, but when approached in the proper spirit of fun and willingness to suspend disbelief, it is quite entertaining. The story is told from Sebastian's perspective, and this dog's-eye view contributes to its humor.
