About the Author:

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.

Tudor Humphries trained first as a theatre designer before going on to work as a children's book illustrator, landscape painter, wildlife artist, photographer, sculptor, and teacher. He has brought his lyrical style of artwork to many books and feels a particular affinity for Puddleglum the Marsh-wiggle: "When I found out C.S. Lewis based him on his gardener, it all made sense to me." Tudor's artwork brings the landscape and characters of Narnia gloriously to life.

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: new. Humphries, Tudor (illustrator). Hardcover. Narnia: A magical land full of wonder and excitement. A place where you will meet Aslan, the bravest of lions, and a beautiful but wicked Witch. There are lots of other fabulous creatures too: giants and dwarfs and animals that talk. It all begins when four children — Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy — discover a strange old wardrobe. Stepping inside, they find that it's stranger still, because behind all the fur coats there is a wondrous land of trees and mountains, all glistening with snow. The White Witch has spread an icy winter everywhere. Only Aslan can defeat her and reverse her wicked spell. The children must find the lion before it is too late. If they fail, the Witch will make them her prisoners forever. In the fifty years since it was written, The Lion, the Witch And the Wardrobe has become one of the great classics of children's literature. Now younger children can share the magical experience, stepping into a world of enchantment that will forever lure them back. Narnia: a world made by magic from the start of time, full of marvelous creatures, talking beasts, and trees that sometimes get up and dance. And now the door to this magical world is opened to much younger children, with an exciting retelling specially created to introduce C. S. Lewis's enchanting land. Join Peter, Susan, Edmund, and the adventurous Lucy as they step through the wardrobe and meet the noble lion, Aslan, the fearsome White Witch, and of course the lovable Mr. Tumnus. The inspiration for THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE first comr to C. S. Lewis when he was sixteen. The book began with a picture in his head of a faun carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. He waited until he was nearly fifty before writing the story and followed this with six other Chronicles of Narnia. THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE has become one of the finest classics in children's literature, and with this superbly illustrated retelling, younger children can now step into the magic of Narnia.
