Also making appearances are various palace functionaries and Hollywood types. Unfortunately, the characterizations are lax, motivations often muddled, the pacing slow. Waller, who is perhaps best known for his nonfiction books, Dog Day Afternoon and Hide in Plain Sight, barely keeps the pot boiling in this one. Literary Guild selection.
