About the Author:
Dr Cliff Ricketts came through the ranks of agricultural education and the Future Farmers of America; he is a product of the program. He has achieved every degree offered by the FFA, including the Greenhand, Chapter, State, and American FFA (Farmer) degrees; Honorary Chapter; Honorary State; and Honorary American FFA; the last of which was received the same year by the former President George W. Bush and Lee Iacocca. As a high school agricultural education instructor, his students won the State FFA Parliamentary Procedure Contest, State FFA Creed Speaking Contest (four times), and were awarded runner-up in Public Speaking. Ricketts was also a recipient of the National Extemporaneous Speaking. Ricketts was also a recipient of the National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association's National Award while a high school teacher. Ricketts received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Tennessee and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. While teaching at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), he received both the MTSU Foundation's Outstanding Public Service Award and its Outstanding Teacher Award twice, He was also a finalist for its Outstanding Research Award and Career Achievement Award. Ricketts is still involved in production agriculture with a beef cattle operation on his family farm 20 miles east of Nashville, Tennessee. His children, John, Mitzi, and Paul and six grandchildren are the fifth generation on the family farm. Cliff Ricketts is also involved with alternative fuels research and has run engines off ethanol from corn, methane, from cow manure, soybean oil, and hydrogen from water. He and his students from Middle Tennessee State University presently hold the world's land speed record for a hydrogen-fueled vehicle. Ricketts has made approximately 1,000 presentations on leadership and alternative fuels in his 33 years at MTSU.
