Book Description Penguin, New York, NY, 1983. Soft Cover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: None as Issued. First Edition, 17th Printing. BRAND NEW Copy. An autobiographical novel and first major work of Iowa-born writer, novelist and teacher Wallace Stegner (1909 - 1993). Oft quoted for saying the agenda of fiction is to tell the truth, this novel set in the trying times of America in the early 20th century is beset with realism. Protangonist Bo Mason, with family in tow, drifts from town to town in the West Coast in search of the big, rock candy mountain where blue birds sings while sparkling lemonade gushes forth from springs --- the elusiveness of Arcadia feeds tension, as wells as self and mutual abuse within the family. A portrait of a family beset by economic woe painted with stark realism. Bookseller Inventory # 011356
