Could there be an inventor as absent-minded as Professor Branestawm? However good his ideas are - a clock that doesn't need winding, a trap for burglars, a machine that does the cleaning all by itself - the mad professor always seems to end up in hilarious scrapes!

Norman Hunter was born in 1899 in Sydenham, London. After leaving school and finishing what he described as a 'course of all-in wrestling with typewriters', he became an advertising copywriter. He also began, in 1915, giving performances of conjuring, and made over two hundred appearances at Maskelyne and Devants. His first Branestawm book was published in 1933. After the Second World War, Norman Hunter moved to South Africa, where he continued to work in advertising. Conjuring was still one of his spare time occupations. He returned to England in 1969 where he lived near the river at Staines until his death in 1995.Review:
"Old-fashioned colonels, vicars and housekeepers inhabit Branestawm's cosy, un-PC world, but his capacity to amuse hasn't diminished, and Heath Robinson's illustration does his muddled genius justice" Irish Times "He is the epitome of the wacky absent minded professor, an inventor whose creations never quite work" Birmingham Post "This wacky tale is all about the positively, wonderfully nutty and fabulously enjoyable calamities of Professor Branestawm" 4 Girlz
