About the Author:
Sooni Taraporevala is an internationally acclaimed screenwriter and photographer, best known for her film collaborations with Mira Nairthe Oscar-nominated Salaam Bombay! (1988), the widely lauded Mississippi Masala (1991) and The Namesake (2006), based on Jhumpa Lahiris novel. She won the Lillian Gish Award from Women in Film for her first screenplay, Salaam Bombay!, and the Osella award for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival for Mississippi Masala. Her other production credits include the film Such a Long Journey (1998), based on the novel by Rohinton Mistry, which earned Taraporevala a Genie nomination from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television; My Own Country (1998), based on the book by Abraham Verghese; the film Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000). She directed her first feature film, Little Zizou (2008), based on her own screenplay, which won ten international awards including the Audience Choice Award at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, Time/Warner Best Screenplay and Best Director awards at the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council film festival in New York City.

In 2000 she authored and published a book of her photographs Parsis: The Zoroastrians of India, A Photographic Journey. A labour of love for over twenty years, the book was a critical and popular success.
