WORLD POLITICS IN A NEW ERA provides a basic overview of international relations, providing a strong historical foundation coupled with the integration of current issues and a cohesive theme of globalization and fragmentation. Completely reorganized in the Third Edition to cover theoretical issues in the beginning, highlight the importance of political economy, then spotlight both historical and current global issues in the latter half, the book aims to give students context to better grasp the numerous issues in world politics today. In addition, a powerful new pedagogical program and research tools built into the book and its package, including Infotrac and a CD and International Relations Resource Center on the web, WORLD POLITICS IN A NEW ERA is a book both instructors and students appreciate for its reliability, flexibility, and readability.

He is now working on a volume about regional security in the Middle East., and a reader for World Politics. In June 1995, Dr. Spiegel received the Karpf Peace Prize, which is awarded to the UCLA professor considered to have done the most of any faculty member during the previous two years for the cause of world peace. He was the recipient of the prestigious Pew Faculty Fellowship in International Affairs in 1993 and also served as the Chair of the Liberal Arts Committee of the Commission of Arms Control and Disarmament of the International Association of University Presidents/United Nations Commission on Arms Control Education from 1992 to 1996. In the 1992 Presidential campaign, Spiegel served as the senior foreign policy advisor to the late Senator Paul Tsongas, and later as a Middle East advisor to then-Governor Bill Clinton. Professor Spiegel has also published in many well-known magazines and journals, including "The New Republic," "The National Interest," "Commentary," "Orbis," "Middle East Insight," "Middle East Quarterly," and "International Studies Quarterly." Spiegel's foreign policy reader, AT ISSUE: POLITICS IN THE WORLD ARENA, became the most popular of its kind in the United States, and was published in its seventh edition in the fall of 1993.
Review:
"This text combines the perfect level for students with a comprehensive look at the field, a balance of topics, and is written in a clear style."

"World Politics in a New Era is head and shoulders above the competition. I use Spiegel and Wehling because the coverage is excellent, the clarity of writing superb, and it is well balanced."
