Nous avons déjà une excellente biographie de Molière, celle que M. Louis Moland vient d'ajouter à son édition des oeuvres du poète; nous en aurons bientôt une autre, que prépare M. Paul Mesnard pour la collection des Grands Ecrivains de la France, et les travaux antérieurs de M. Mesnard laissent prévoir quel sera le mérite de celui-ci. C'était assez, semble - t-il, pour décourager toute tentative du même genre; j'ai cru, cependant, qu'entre ce qu'avait fait l'un et ce que l'autre allait faire, il restait place pour un livre dont l'histoire de Molière serait le principal élément, mais non l'objet, et qui, tout en utilisant les plus récentes recherches auxquelles cette histoire a donné lieu, verrait en elles un moyen plutôt qu'un but.
