International Relations presents the current concepts, theories, and events that comprise the discipline in a comprehensive yet accessible manner. Each of these elements is examined through the subfields of international security; international organization, law, and political economy; North-South issues; and the environment.

This text illustrates how the various subfields of international relations are integrated conceptually while the use of concrete examples connects theory back to the real world events present in students’ lives.

The Third Canadian Edition deepens the Canadian perspective; includes new coverage of recent major international events; and places more emphasis on the Environment, International Law, and International Organizations.

Review:

“Overall, this wonderful introductory text provides a comprehensive overview of the international themes and issues impacting Canada and the world at large.”

--Robert Farkasch, University of British Columbia

“Finding the right balance between research and analysis in an introductory textbook is not an easy feat, and the present work does a very good job in balancing the two dimensions....Worth special mentioning is the extensive list of references on the topics discussed in the text (few textbooks include such a detailed bibliography), which students can use when writing their assignments....The boxes in each chapter are the most attractive learning feature in the text.”

--Ruben Zaiotti, Dalhousie University

“[This text has] superb coverage of topics at a level that is unlikely to overwhelm students, while providing them with the intellectual foundations to pursue advanced studies in the field with the requisite blend of analysis of key concepts, theories and cases. The pedagogical benefit of the material added to the text cannot be underestimated. The blend of Canadian and international examples makes it possible for students to gain a perspective that is relevant and contextual.”

--Chaldeans Mensah, Grant MacEwan University

“Good discussion of concepts and examples, and a readable introduction to IR and global issues for undergraduates.”

--Mira Sucharov, Carleton University

“The issues handled are done in a probing and incisive way. The Canadian content makes this text one of the best. The tough questions are faced and students will be much more informed in their read of global politics after living through this wisely crafted tome.”

--Ron Dart, University of the Fraser Valley
