Part gossip, part behind-the-scenes tell-all, part confessional, this book details the strangest tour in rock history, as 15 of America's most popular writers--including Stephen King, Amy Tan, Dave Barry, and Barbara Kingsolver--left their "day jobs" for life on the rock 'n' roll road. Features 100 candid (and often excruciatingly embarrassing) photos, 30 in color.

About the Author:
Stephen King, the world's bestselling novelist, was educated at the University of Maine at Orono. He lives with his wife, the novelist Tabitha King, and their children in Bangor, Maine.
Amy Tan is the author of The Joy Luck Club, The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter's Daughter, The Opposite of Fate, Saving Fish from Drowning, and two children’s books, The Moon Lady and The Chinese Siamese Cat, which has been adapted as Sagwa, a PBS series for children. Tan was also the co-producer and co-screenwriter of the film version of The Joy Luck Club, and her essays and stories have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. Her work has been translated into more than twenty-five languages. Tan, who has a master’s degree in linguistics from San Jose University, has worked as a language specialist to programs serving children with developmental disabilities. She lives with her husband in San Francisco and New York.

Roy Blount, Jr., grew up in Georgia and served in the army before becoming a celebrated humorist and cultural journalist. He has written for magazines as diverse as Sports Illustrated and The New York Review of Books and is the author of numerous books that include his recent memoir Be Sweet.

Ridley Pearson is the author of more than twenty novels, including the New York Times bestseller Killer Weekend; the Lou Boldt crime series; and many books for young readers, including the award-winning children's novels Peter and the Starcatchers, Peter and the Shadow Thieves, and Peter and the Secret of Rundoon, which he cowrote with Dave Barry. Pearson lives with his wife and two daughters, dividing their time between Missouri and Idaho.
From Booklist:
Here's a coffee-table book about a supergroup with a difference. Supergroups, of course, are amalgamations of already renowned singers and players. The Rock Bottom Remainders is similarly made up, but the renewal of its performers is as authors, critics, and cartoonists. Originally formed to play at the 1992 American Booksellers Association (ABA) convention, the Remainders had so much fun playing at being rockers that they decided to do a minitour climaxing in an appearance at the 1993 ABA convention in Miami. This is the loose history of the band, the tour, and the ABA shows. Critic Marsh edited and wrote one chapter, and fellow Remainders Stephen King, Dave Barry, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson, and Roy Blount, Jr., among others, wrote the rest. The rocker-writers tell band anecdotes and reflect on their connections to rock music, sometimes revealingly but mostly in a spirit of good, loose fun. If you liked the movies This is Spinal Tap and Meet the Rutles, chances are this book is for you. Mike Tribby
