Much of the suspense arises from the fact that the most likely-but wrongfully accused-suspect hides crucial evidence from the police. While not an unusual ploy, this diversion of attention and complicated set of subplots strengthen the eventual apprehension of the real murderer. Roper (and the author) handle the case with sure-footed aplomb. A pleasant evening's read.
