Brief answers to questions youngsters seek for reports are easy to locate in this atlas. Each state is featured on a two-page spread, with a short text describing that state's history, famous areas, citizens, and capital. At a glance, children can find the state flag, state bird, tree, and flower. A fact box carries further information (population, largest cities, principal waterways, state song, etc.). A relief map includes important highways and labels all borders; a location map pinpoints the position of the state within the country. The states are grouped as eastern and southern, midwestern, and western and mountain. They are then alphabetically arranged within these divisions (oddly, the District of Columbia is placed before Delaware), which include a discussion of each region.
