PreSchool-Grade 2 Henry, a spotted leopard, is frustrated because no one notices him. He blends in with the upholstery, rugs, curtains, laundry, bedspread, etc., so he is always being walked on, sat on, stepped on, or just plain ignored. During a stroll through the jungle, Henry is able to avoid a hunter and decides that being inconspicuous has its advantages. He eventually becomes a magician's assistant and makes a career of seeming invisible. The game ploy of finding Henry in each of the black-and-white drawings isn't enough to make this weak effort worthwhile. Illustrations and text lack spirit. The drawings are cluttered. Orange and black spotted borders do nothing to enliven the pictures. The story is dull and illogical, a slight vehicle for the illustrations. With so many excellent hidden picture books available such as Ann Jonas' The Trek (Greenwillow, 1985), readers needn't waste time looking for Henry. Heide Piehler, Shorewood Public Library, Wis.
