Ages 3-6. Like Mom Pie (2001) and other picture books about young preschooler Robbie and his family, this story dramatizes intense family feelings from a small child's viewpoint. This time Robbie is uneasy because Mommy is angry. She didn't kiss Daddy good-bye. Is it something he and his older brother, Christopher, did wrong? Robbie didn't color on the walls, but maybe she's mad because he colored outside the lines? Mathers' childlike pictures with stick figures and bright crayon colors show the brothers whispering together and trying to be very good while Mom bangs and scowls and prickles all over. Finally Robbie gets mad, gets her attention, and makes her laugh ("I am a borkupine . . . And I am borking you with my prickles"). He tells her directly that he needs stories and snuggles--and so will Daddy when he comes home.
