Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. SIGNED BY WELLMAN on the title page as follows: "Good Luck | Alice Wellman." 8vo. 191pp. Illustrated with 32 black and white captioned photos, including one of giraffes courting (!), and one black and white map. Index. Black, red and yellow pictorial cloth with a black and white photo of a lion cub on the front cover. Just touches of wear to extremities, covers clean and bright, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket just barely shows signs of shelfwear and is very slightly darkened, but not price-clipped. Alice Wellman grew up in Angola, Portuguese West Africa, where her mother developed mission schools and her father, a physician and surgeon, conducted clinics for the island tribes. On the many safaris made for her fathers medical research, Wellman covered much of central and southwestern Africa. All of her books from Putnam's have African themes. This is a fine book by one who writes with firsthand knowledge of the situation. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 01467
