Three girls share a New York City apartment and work as student interns on Trash, a sensational TV talk show. Three boys, also Trash interns, live next door. The six friends work together to put one over on their self-important, exploitative bosses. Chelsea is the daughter of a famous mass murderer. Her roommates are sworn to secrecy about this, but one of the bosses is determined to find her to interview on the show. Karma, a fashion-conscious Korean girl, was adopted at birth by Jewish hippie parents. She's amazed that Demetrius, a handsome fellow of Greek heritage, has fallen for her. Nobody understands why beautiful Lisha is standoffish with the guys who ask her out. It's because an evil man from her past is stalking her for some mysterious reason. The teens are shallow and oh-so-hip. Characters are frequently compared to media stars in terms of appearance and style, which merely underscores the superficiality of the book. Though squeaky clean in terms of language and situations, this title is as trashy in quality as the show it's named for.
